REVIEW – The screwdriver is one of humankind’s most indispensable tools. It is a valuable tool for each MacGyver and most of the 19 Doctor Whos. The ATuMan E2 precision electric screwdriver is midway between the Swiss army and sonic style. I have one to review; read on to see what I think!
What is it?
The ATuMan E2 precision electric screwdriver is a handle with a motor-driven magnetic hex chuck at one end. A rocker thumb switch near the hex chuck controls the chuck’s rotation clockwise or counterclockwise. A rotating switch at the other end turns the screwdriver off or sets it to low or high speed. The screwdriver comes with a storage case that holds 25 bits. The driver can be recharged with a USB type C port.

Design and features
Unboxing
The ATuMan E2 precision electric screwdriver comes in a white cardboard box with a full-color image on the front of the box.
The sides and back of the box have details about the manufacturer, specifications, and directions for use.
Design
The ATuMan E2 precision electric screwdriver is designed to fit nicely inside the plastic case. The case is textured on the top and bottom with a diagonal ridge pattern.
The rear of the case has exposed hinges and the front has an indentation to serve as a handle. Magnets on either side of the front lip keep the case closed. While the magnets are strong enough to keep the case closed if picked up by the top, the bottom will fall open if it is shaken while holding it by just the top. While the bits are all held in place by magnets, the driver can fall out of the case if the case is bumped or tilted on its side. Even though the bits are held in place by magnets the top inside of the case is flat to prevent the bits from shifting while the case is closed. Given that there is some extra space in the case between the outside and inside top it would be nice if ATuMan included another compartment here for tool storage or to hold the USB charging cable.
The screwdriver handle is entirely cylindrical and fits into the case precisely so it is not jostled. One side of the compartment is chamfered and the other side is straight. This design means the screwdriver can only fit into the box in one direction. A rubber adhesive sticker is installed at the screwdriver tip to cushion the fit and protect the driven side. The knob at the top of the screwdriver that is used to power on the screwdriver and select the speed can be left in the on state when the screwdriver is but away. It would be great if the AtuMan E2 had a magnetic switch to ensure the driver is not powered on when stored. Another option would be to design ridges in the top and handle so that the screwdriver could only be stored if in the powered-off mode.
The case is not very descriptive about what bits are included and some of the tool ends of the bits are too minuscule for my eyes to make out. (The H0.7 tool, for instance, is less than 3/100’s of an inch wide.)
Fortunately, each bit is labeled on the driven side with the type and size of the tool.
The tools are standard dimensions. Each bit is 28 mm tall and has a 4 mm hex driving end. The tool is 9 mm deep. If you misplace a tool or need another specific size, a replacement should be readily available. The tools do not come magnetized but can be made magnetic by stroking them against where the power knob usually sits in the case. An icon of a U-shaped magnet is stamped precisely where the bit should be rubbed.
The image below shows the magnets for holding the case closed, the magnets for holding the bits in the organizer, and the bright spot (greatest magnetic flux) is the area for magnitization.
Operation
The operation of the ATuMan E2 precision electric screwdriver is very intuitive. The power/speed knob is rotated to the first position for slow and the second position for fast.
The slow speed is about 150RPM/min, and the faster speed is approx. 210RPM/min (Rotational speed error ±10%). The speed under load may be slower. These speeds are fast if they were to be achieved by a person using a typical manual precision driver so it is easy to control when to start and stop the rotation.
To turn the driver on rotate the knob on top to the first or second position. An LED illuminates indicating standby power. Press down on the operating switch to screw in/tighten the screw or to otherwise turn in a clockwise direction. Press up on the operating switch to unscrew/loosen the screw or to otherwise operate in a counter-clockwise direction.
The LED has multiple functions. When charging the LED flashes, fully charged the LED is always on, during operation the LED is always on, and at low charge, the LED blinks.
To use the magnetizer rub the bit against the indicated area a couple of times.
The bits do not initially have a magnetic field.
But after rubbing three times they can pick up this staple.
Performance
It is an easy product to use. I appreciate the balance of the screwdriver and the grooves towards the base where it is held. The driver has limited torque, which is good enough to set screws in place but not strip the items it is used with. The driver can also be turned to apply more torque after the operating switch is released.
The RPMs of the unit and a typical thread pitch and length of an M2 screw should alow the screwdriver to operate on about 350 screws. recharging takes 3 hours.

Final thoughts
Sure, a manual screwdriver can do everything that this motor-driven one can, but an electric screwdriver is a required tool for high-volume assembly or repairs. This model has a nice storage case with a built-in magnetizer. It has good balance and easy ergonomics.
